Alan Pullen

» Rippin'/Wound Up

Reviewed by Tim Priestley / Submitted 24-10-02 20:48

Label: Class A
Format: 12" Vinyl
Genre: Hard House

This is the first release for the brand spanking new sister label of Alan Pullen & Mark Kavanaghs Baby Doll imprint, and it looks set to rival its sibling tune for tune. 'Rippin' kicks off proceedings with its huge bassline, nice synth-work and interesting vocals on the build. I like tracks that try something a little different and the 8 bar breakdown gives the track great driving feel which seems to have been lost recently with the long, euphoric break which seem to be flavour of the month. The real gem of this release in my eyes is in fact the B side; 'Wound Up'. With support from none other than Andy Farley this track causes dancefloor damage big time. A short, chuggy bassline drives the track along and is shortly joined by a pleasantly euphoric string pattern before a break which has the lot...strings, breakbeat and Josh Wink style 303's with attitude! An extremely solid first release.
